Gratuity and tipping in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia
A tip, or gratuity, is defined as a gift of money given to someone for performing a service or menial task, over and above the payment due for the service. Tips, which are not required in all countries, are expected in some denomination for good service from those in the industries where tipping is expected.
Tips in Vietnam
Most workers in Vietnam ear not much and in Vietnam, tipping is not compulsory as well as not expected in Vietnmam but if you are travelling to Vietnam, you must be familiar with the tipping etiquette there and is very much appreciated for a good service. You can either tip in local money – Vietnam Dong or US cash dollar is acceptable in everywhere, so make sure you should change to Vietnam Dong to have some easy buyings of small things. You can also tip to driver and a tour guide some 4-6 USD per person per day for package tour and some 10- 15 USD for a day tour. Door bells man is expected to be 3-4 USD at hotels and no need to tip for taxi driver as fares is negotiated.
Tips in Thailand
With Thailand Country, tourism is more than developed and this is the main industry of Thailand. Tipping is not compulsory and customary but people still expected a tip and we advise you to give to good service a small tip but not much.
Tips in Cambodia
Cambodia Country is nearly the same with Vietnam, due to low incomes, workers for tourist industry always expected a tip to have more money for their daily expenses. So, tipping is encouraged, and how much depends on the service and the situation in Cambodia. With driver and a tour guide, some 3-5 USD per person per day for package tour and some 10 USD for a day tour. Door-bell man is expected to be 2-3 USD at hotels and no need to tip for taxi driver as fares is negotiated.
Tips in Laos Country
Laos Country offers great landscapes and home of very friendly people. Tipping is not customary in Laos, but it is sometimes seen. In some upmarket restaurants where 10% of the bill is appreciated – but only if a service charge hasn’t already been added. You can also tip to driver and a tour guide some 3-5 USD per person per day for package tour and some 10 USD for a day tour.
